What Is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is a small titanium post that replaces the root of a missing tooth. Once it fuses with your jawbone, a custom crown is placed on top, so it looks, feels, and works like a natural tooth. Diamondback Dentistry places dental implants for patients across North Phoenix.

  • Replaces the whole tooth Restores both the root and the visible crown, not just the part you see.
  • Protects your jawbone The implant post helps preserve the bone that supports your smile.
  • Stands on its own No need to reshape or lean on the healthy teeth next to the gap.
  • Looks and feels natural The final crown is shaped and shaded to blend with your other teeth.
  • Made to last With proper care, dental implants can last for decades.
  • Most PPO plans accepted We verify your benefits for free and give you a written estimate first.

From a single tooth to a full arch, we offer an implant option to match your situation, all in one North Phoenix office.

What to Expect

The Dental Implant Process at Diamondback

A dental implant is placed over several months, which is what makes it so stable. We numb the area with local anesthesia, and anti-anxiety medication is available on request, so each visit stays comfortable. We explain every step before we begin.

Step 1

Consultation and Exam

We examine your mouth, take digital X-rays, and review your medical and dental history to see if implants are right for you. We discuss your options and flag any preparatory work up front.

Step 2

Your Treatment Plan

Dr. Owtad maps out a personalized plan and walks you through the timeline, the procedure, and the cost in writing before any work begins. No surprises, no pressure.

Step 3

Site Preparation, If Needed

If your jawbone needs more support, Dr. Owtad may recommend a bone graft or sinus lift before placement. These are routine procedures that rebuild the area so your implant has a stable foundation. Not everyone needs this step.

Step 4

Implant Placement

Dr. Owtad places the titanium post in your jawbone under local anesthesia, with anti-anxiety medication available on request. Most single placements take about an hour, and you head home the same day with simple aftercare instructions.

Step 5

Healing (3 to 6 Months)

Over the next few months the post fuses with your jawbone, a process called osseointegration, which is what makes an implant so stable. You go about daily life with periodic check-ins, and a temporary tooth can be placed if needed.

Step 6

Abutment and Final Crown

Once the implant has fully integrated, Dr. Owtad attaches the abutment and takes an impression for your custom crown. When it is ready, the crown is placed and your new tooth is complete.

Treatment Options

Types of Dental Implants We Offer

The right approach depends on how many teeth you are replacing and the condition of your jawbone. Dr. Owtad helps you choose the option that fits your situation during your consultation.

Single Tooth Implant

One Tooth Single gap

One missing tooth is replaced with a single titanium post and a custom crown that stands on its own, without touching the healthy teeth beside it.

  • Replaces the root and the crown
  • Leaves neighboring teeth untouched
  • Cleaned like a natural tooth
  • Custom-shaded to match your smile
  • A stable, long-term replacement

Best for a single gap from decay, injury, or an extraction.

All-on-4 Implants

Full Arch 4 implants

A full arch of fixed teeth is supported by four implants, a stable alternative to a removable denture for an upper or lower set.

  • A full arch on four implants
  • Fixed in place, not removable
  • No slipping and no adhesive
  • Restores eating and speaking
  • Personalized after a consultation

Best for replacing all upper or lower teeth at once.

Full Mouth Implants

All Teeth Upper and lower

When most or all teeth are missing or failing, a full-mouth plan rebuilds your upper and lower teeth with a fixed, implant-supported set.

  • Rebuilds a complete smile
  • Upper, lower, or both arches
  • Fixed, natural-looking teeth
  • Helps preserve jawbone over time
  • Planned around your case

Best for extensive tooth loss across one or both arches.

Same-Day Implants

Same Day Temporary set

In select cases, Dr. Owtad can place your implants and attach a temporary set of teeth on the same day, so you do not leave with a gap.

  • Implants placed in one visit
  • Leave with a temporary set
  • Fewer appointments overall
  • Candidacy confirmed at your exam
  • Final teeth placed after healing

Best for qualifying patients who want to avoid the wait.

FAQ

Dental Implant Questions, Answered

Answers to what North Phoenix patients ask most about dental implants. Do not see your question? Call (602) 866-8183 and we will help.

How much do dental implants cost in Phoenix?

The cost of dental implants in Phoenix depends on how many teeth you are replacing and whether you need preparatory work such as a bone graft. Diamondback Dentistry gives you a written estimate before treatment begins and reviews what your plan covers. Call (602) 866-8183 for a quote specific to your situation.

What disqualifies you from getting dental implants?

Very few things rule out implants completely. Active gum disease, uncontrolled diabetes, and heavy smoking can lower success and may need to be managed first, and lost jawbone can often be rebuilt with a bone graft. Dr. Owtad reviews your health and jawbone at your North Phoenix consultation to find the right path.

Does getting a dental implant hurt?

Getting a dental implant should not hurt. We place the implant under local anesthesia so the procedure stays comfortable, and anti-anxiety medication is available on request. Some swelling and tenderness for a few days afterward is normal and is usually managed with standard pain medication. Tell us your concerns when you book.

How long does the dental implant process take?

From your first consultation to the final crown, the dental implant process usually takes about four to seven months. Most of that time is healing, while the implant fuses with your jawbone. Once it has fully integrated, Dr. Owtad places the abutment and your custom crown over a few short visits.

Can you get free or low-cost dental implants in Arizona?

Diamondback Dentistry does not offer free implants, but we work to make treatment affordable. You get a written estimate up front, we accept most PPO plans, and we offer CareCredit financing so you can spread out the cost. Dental schools and nonprofit programs are other options some patients in Arizona explore.

Does dental insurance cover dental implants?

Coverage varies by plan. Many PPO policies do not cover the surgical placement of the implant, but most cover the final crown, so your benefits can still offset the cost. Diamondback Dentistry accepts most major PPO plans and verifies your benefits for free. Call (602) 866-8183 to confirm what your plan covers.

How long do dental implants last?

With good care, dental implants are designed to last for decades, and many last a lifetime. The post fuses with your jawbone and does not decay like a natural tooth, though the crown on top may need replacement after years of wear. Daily brushing, flossing, and regular checkups help yours last.
