Dental Crowns: Restore a Damaged Tooth's Strength and Look

A cracked, worn, or heavily decayed tooth needs more than a filling can offer. A dental crown caps the tooth completely, rebuilding its shape and bite while protecting what's left underneath. At Diamondback Dentistry, our in-house dental lab crafts durable zirconia and ceramic crowns that blend in with your natural smile.

  • Protects a weakened tooth Shields cracks and decay from getting worse.
  • Looks completely natural Tooth-colored zirconia matches your surrounding teeth.
  • Restores full chewing power Bite and chew comfortably on the repaired tooth.

Crown Options

Types of Dental Crowns: Zirconia, Ceramic, or Crown & Bridge

The right crown depends on which tooth needs it and how much chewing force it takes. Dr. Owtad examines the tooth, your bite, and how visible it is when you smile, then recommends the crown that balances strength and a natural look.

Zirconia Crowns

Metal-Free Strongest material

Made from solid diamond zirconia, these crowns combine exceptional strength with a tooth-colored finish.

  • Extremely durable
  • Completely metal-free
  • Handles heavy bite force
  • Resists chipping and cracks
  • Great for back molars

Best for molars and any tooth that takes a lot of chewing pressure.

  • Keeps teeth from shifting
  • Custom-matched to your smile

Your Process

Getting a Dental Crown in 3 Steps

A crown is a straightforward process. From the first exam to seating your finished crown, every stage is planned for comfort and a result that fits and looks right.

Exam and Digital Scan

Dr. Owtad examines the tooth, takes digital scans for a precise impression, and confirms whether a crown is the right fix, with cost and timeline upfront.

Prepare and Fit the Tooth

We gently shape the tooth so the crown seats correctly, then protect it while your permanent crown is being made.

Seat Your Final Crown

We check the fit and bite, then bond your custom crown, crafted in our in-house lab, into place for a snug, natural-looking result.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Crowns

If you're considering a dental crown, you probably have a few questions. Here are the ones Dr. Owtad hears most often.

How long do dental crowns last?

With good care, most dental crowns last 10 to 15 years, and often longer. Zirconia crowns are especially durable and resist chipping. Brushing, flossing, and regular checkups all help your crown last as long as possible.

Does getting a crown hurt?

Getting a crown is a comfortable procedure. We numb the tooth with local anesthesia before preparing it, so you shouldn't feel pain during the visit. Some patients notice mild sensitivity for a few days afterward, which usually settles on its own.

How many visits does a crown take?

A crown typically takes two visits. At the first, we prepare the tooth, take a digital scan, and place a temporary crown. Once your permanent crown is ready from our in-house lab, you return to have it fitted and bonded into place.

What's the difference between a crown and a filling?

A filling repairs a small area of decay, while a crown covers and protects the entire tooth. Dr. Owtad usually recommends a crown when a tooth is cracked, heavily worn, or too damaged for a filling to hold. He'll explain which option is right for your tooth during your exam.

Will my insurance cover a dental crown?

Many dental plans cover part of the cost of a crown when it's needed to restore a damaged tooth. We accept most major PPO plans, verify your benefits before treatment, and file claims directly for you. If coverage falls short, CareCredit financing lets you spread the cost over time.
